He smelled of cedar
crisp, like early mornings
in late September
with beautiful eyes
and a dangerous smile
making me wish for things
I didn’t yet understand

innocence,
and romantic notions
of holding hands,
a heart stopping kiss
unexpected.....
He was poetry
written upon my soul
before I knew the words...

Those dreams, they don’t fade
and that innocence
is never lost
and sometimes,
late in September
I am reminded
with the smell of cedar
and the memory
of that kiss.....

OH Susan....lord have mercy...what a beautiful feeling....this touches me in ways I have no words for....thank you

I don’t want the world to see me
cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken I just want you to know who I am

Susan,
So you are holding to the innocent line then? Another excellent write, thank you.

Cedar?  This poem makes me want to find some cedar, rub it all over then go hug my wife and see if it invokes the same thing!  This was a memorable piece.  I can't relate to the cedar, though.  It smells great but not necessarily on a woman.  I prefer perfumes.  My wife always smells so soft and beautiful.  Whether she's wearing perfume or not.  This poem reminds me of the first time I met her.  Her smile, her charm, and her scent are all things that I cherish from our first meeting.  Thanks for taking me down memory lane for a moment with this beautiful piece of writing.  It really put a smile on my face.  Now, where the heck did I put that cedar?

Your poetic friend,

Kevin

Sweet perfection SEA !! Love this.
Brought back memories of a special kiss at the age of sixteen and the perfume I wore called Woodhue by Faberge'. Thankyou for sharing this gem with us. Library bound! hugs, Chris

SEA, this was a perfect reminder of one of my own memories...it's true, but with me it is October, not September.  Lovely, lovely writing, BTW.   .....jo

Wow, very lovely, filled with many lines that cut through to me, to live warm under my ribs. Nicely done.
