Riding Alone
By Larry Chadwick
A Motorcycle Ride past the Superstition Mountains today

I revisited the road we traveled today,
A journey I was not expecting to replay.
I felt you traveling there with me,
It brought calm as it is meant to be.

The landmarks are now associated with you,
Adding nostalgia to the things I like to do.
Songs you liked play there in my mind,
Comforting me in a way that is so kind.

You leaned with me into all the curves,
The presence of you comforting my nerves.
Scenery as incredible as it has ever been,
Just the way you liked it way back when…

Miles roll by with goose bumps on my arms,
Thinking of you and how I miss your charms.
It has been too long since we visited there,
But I still remember and I will always care.

it's hard when the things we face daily can be our reminders... music, mountains, rides, roads,

curves....

i felt every moment of this as i was reading. straight to the heart.

.......... off track a bit....
this poem also made me a wee bit jealous. lol. i should probably explain in email :-)

Larry...Such an incredibly emotional piece. One that touches the heart and stirs the soul. You draw us into your pain and share the memories of the good times you shared with your daughter. You have such a wonderful gift that makes your daughter's memory live on forever and live on in beauty.

This struck to the heart, at least my heart,

NancyLee,
Thank you. It was an unexpected benefit to my morning. As I drove by the Superstitions and past the ghosttown of GoldField the radio played an Enya song that Ginger had recorded and given to me some time ago. And GoldField was one of the last places I took Ginger the last week I saw her. So I rode for miles through that song with goosebumps on my arms. Wonderful memories to a tune that connected it all. Go figure.

misc'a,
Thank you so very much! I indeed rode with a flood of memories and knew she would have loved to be riding behind me.

Martin,
Thank you kind sir. That is how it felt.

Paul,
Thans. It is appreciated.

Karilea,
Thank you and trust me when I say it was my pleasure.

Kacy,
It was an amazing ride. It is the closest "motorcycle route" to our home now and will take it often. At times like that being "alone" is the best.

snow,
Actually, it is incredibly comforting! And do tell...

Sue,
Yes it is but it is okay too and thanks.

Ivy Rose,
Wow, such kind words. Thank you.

MyHeartofShadows,
I like that line! And thank you.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

You took me back to the ride past Superstition Mountain in my past. I could see it in the distance and recall the road signs the said:

Watch for Javelina.

My favorite part of that area was Tucson in the early morning.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Larry, I love riding on the back of a motorcycle ~ and I felt as though I were with you. It was so vivid!

~ and as you well know, you are never really "Riding Alone"...

This was an especially touching memory that you have shared with your readers. I was really moved by your writing and the emotions that it stirred within me.

Larry,

Your writing is so well inspired and charged with such emotion that it leaves me just staring at the page after I have read it...just absorbing it...taking it all in.  It is a very touching write in which you invite us into such a personal issue that we feel overwhelmingly humble that you might think well enough of us here to share it.  I am profoundly grateful for your posts.  They remind me, without fail, to appreciate the woman now sleeping upstairs.  I will be re-posting two poems for you in hopes that you may appreciate them in the same manner in which you wrote this poem.  They are called "The Sun Shall Rise Again" and "This Bitter Wind".  I hope you can appreciate them.  I wrote them for the same reasons as you.  Not as close to the issue as you but in the same spirit.

Warm regards to you always,

Kevin

littlewing,
Dear friend you are so very kind and I so appreciate it. Thank you for your tenderness as it means so much.

jo,
You put a smile on my face, thank you.

Linda,
Cool! That was indeed the irony of the trip that I thought I took alone. It was a very meaningful journey yesterday.

Kevo,
You have an uncanny ability to feel what I felt and to see what I saw. I'm sure it is a gift. We are not promised tomorrow, but we do have today. Hold onto that and the past can't hurt you. Thank you for the re-posts that you so generously shared. Peace.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
