In a room up the stairs
with a view of a hill
and the sun setting off to the side
there’s a bed and a desk,
a woman in red,
and no companionable silence
coming up from the other rooms.

But it’s not all quiet, there’s traffic about
somewhere on the other side
of cream painted walls
and soft glowing lights
in pretence of a romantic evening.

She doesn’t know much
except there’s no love
and now there’s only an “I”
waiting, just waiting, to die
as time throws the minutes aside
and follows it up with the hours.

And then the phone rings,
“Hey, ma, it’s me” …
and that’s why she’s still alive!

Yes, yes, thank heavens for children.

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

Helen

"She doesn’t know much
except there’s no love"

Isn't it nice to have a reminder now and then, that there is love?
