Crawling carefully along the ground
to avoid being discovered,
the sly predator slipped past
the dumb ducks and cackling hens in their pens,
who were all too much into SELF
to take notice their world was about to change.

It happens that way even with two legged creatures
who frequently are too self-absorbed
and too-often complacent.

We can sometimes be as ducks, hens and sheep,
meet up with our own final forever sleep
in the blink of an eye,
especially when that eye
is focused clearly upon us
as legitimate prey,
or when we are perceived
as evildoers,

and sitting ducks.

Smiling wide at Kace--

"the dumb ducks and cackling hens in their pens,"

may well be the only line with which I might take issue. Methinks I'd name a coupla drakes and roosters too.

Downright inspiring.

Guess we better watch our backsides , no matter who wins the PREZ race.
Why can't we send Osamy back to his mammy?

The drives of greed and fear by men beheld
Are sanctioned by the allies that they weld.
From Cain and Abel to the world in gloom,
We have no doubt the road leads on to doom.
Midst trial, stress and somewhat mangled hope
We humans do our best to simply cope.
One means we have that cannot make things worse
is tell our hopes to others with our verse.

Well said, Kacy!  KJ

yes, sometimes the best we can hope for
is to cope

I'm glad you enjoyed my jingle, Kacy.  Btw, I don't know if you are any kind of musician, (I personally vary between mediocre and abysmal) but Barbara Kingsolver is also a piano player of some skill.  Ken

Ken, I had no idea. Now I AM jealous! LOL, and abysmal might describe my talents, though I've been told I have some natural talent for piano and guitar, I never took any formal music lessons. I'm pretty good at the CD player though. LOL.
Barbara is one very talented lady!

Jo, what a generous reply!

Piano and guitar are my faves, but time to play is sparse.  I like to noodle on fiddle and banjo, but they don't get the priority they deserve.  Someday....like the illusive "someday" I'll write more.
