To Say “I Love You”

These painful words I could not speak
For through love's stinging darts I knelt
And left a kiss upon her cheek

No fond goodbye my lips could eek
From out this heart where sorrow felt
These painful words I could not speak

Love’s flaming wick was growing weak
But crystal tears it finally melt
And left a kiss upon her cheek

My secret passion would not leak
From tongue that numbed with lover’s welt
These painful words I could not speak

And she, such beauty, swift and sleek
To leave the one whose fate was dealt
And left a kiss upon her cheek

How cruel is life to take the weak
For death had purged a heart where dwelt
These painful words I could not speak
And left a kiss upon her cheek

So many images go through my mind with this heart-wringer.  But you write sadness so well...so very well.

dearest Liz...hello, how are you...this was an emotion and a part of life that is so sad and hard...but knowing of your faith, I'm certain you realize...she knew and knows now
Wonderfully written, thank you for sharing

...hugs and sending good thoughts along for a wonderful weekend

Liz dear...I suspect she knew...sometimes love does not need words.   What an emotive poem!

Elizabeth
This welled tears, exactly as it should...
The repetitive lines are perfect, bringing the reader around and around to the theme...
excellent poem
enjoyed it, even through its sadness
