Perhaps a poet she might be,
Penning rhymes for him to see,
But does it matter what her calling,
When at last the night comes falling?
For in first blush of vespertine,
With day and night in intertwine,
She transcends from mortal being,
Into a dream from daylight fleeing,
She reaches out a hand to him,
Leads him aloft to welkin’s rim,
Where he touches on a star,
And feels the heat; kiss of Ishtar.
They dance as one ‘cross heaven’s floor,
Within the glow of evermore,
Sounds forth the song of Terspsichore,
A simple song and nothing more,
A song to cause his heart to pound,
For in her dream true beauty found,
He thinks not a poet she,
She is a muse that sets him free.
