Pink Feather Death

The flamingoes have died,
their frail pink forms
sprawled where they fell,
slender legs gone akimbo,
shaming the grass.

Their long necks still curve,
graceful, serene, articulating
an agony they cannot feel
as their blank eyes stare at me,
insistent, waiting for my hand
to stand them up again
beside the spa --

Plastic resurrection!

Odd things happen when you mow around here -- like a little pile of dead flamingoes in the back yard.....

Oh my gosh...I had in my mind, the San Diego Zoo...and that first place you see...(or smell)  Plastic?  Wheew...just set them back on their feet and they'll live another 20 years!  Enjoyed this!  (of course)

Between you and Martie, I am smiling.  I despise those plastic ones - and my first encounter of them was at the San Diego Zoo...

here, in the middle of everything, we have The Rolling Hills Zoo and Conservatory...and yes, they've managed to acquire [and feed appropriately] pink Flamingos...

thank you for this, Sir.

Yep, they're totally tasteless -- which is why I like 'em! It gives them personality, you see....

I move them around a lot, have 'em poking their heads around a corner or out of a bush, once perched up in one of the orange trees....They're great Happy Mutant fodder!

Ed~
LOLing at this one ... my mother was a plastic pink flamingo lady~
I smile with fond remembrance~

At the Hialeah Thoroughbred Race Track in Miami ... they have gorgeous flamingos of the non-plastic variety in the middle of the race park on an island.
Absolutely awesome to see them~

Love your write~

Ed this reminds me of the last month or so of my sister's life.

Her neighbors had these fake deer (oh the kind used for target practice)and they would make one more feminine with a bow on it's head and would place them in different positions( you'd have to know my sister)
to  give her a smile or laugh...whichever she was able to do, when looking out her  window.

Ed,  something in my gut told me this was
how it would be,  but the power of your
written word kept me from that conclusion
to the very end...

Excellent write...

Well, the first thing that came to my mind when I read the title was that your poem was going to be about someone being tickled to death with a pink feather boa! lol

Then I became sad as I read your touchingly descriptive poem.

Then you picked my spirits back up with an ending that tickled my fancy!

Bing!  Score!  I was picturing a few remaining with poor balance. Then I could see their long, distorted heads and necks like an artist such as Goya might paint if he would happen upon that subject matter.
You got over over on me--I should have known you'd pull out your wit, displaying a resurrected plastic flamingo!

Ed...For a moment I thought you had been to Hollywood Park Race Track and something bad had happennend to their Flamingoes. They are so beautiful and graceful.
Enjoyed the poem especially the ending..Paul

Oh, I love this! *S* From disaster to resurrection... this is excellent! *S* And I'm so glad it ended with a smile. *S*

I think the San Diego Zoo provided a "first" for a lot of us... though my most vivid memory of the non-plastic variety was a long, unrewarded wait for some in Florida to cooperate and stand on one leg for my handy-dandy camera. *G* I'm convinced half the legs tucked up the minute I walked away... guess I'll have to photograph the plastic ones! *G*
