THE CALLING

Tell me, can you see tears in the rain?
Tell me, can you feel pleasure in pain?
Tell me, why can't you see yourself falling?

Or do you know where the still wind blows
While one by one we line up in rows?
Standing proud, mere heroes for the calling.

Who are the demons with eyes agleam,
When it seems to real to be a dream.
Red smoke glides over lakes of desire,
A sea of ice, a funeral pyre.
Incinerated heart, cauterized soul,
In the hell of no conscious control!

For all it's worth, it's no use screaming,
Through frenzied mirth in possessed dreaming.
No one's there to see, nor will they hear,
No one's there but you to face this fear.
Silence of night echoes the calling,
And still you can't see yourself falling.

Merrily, merry go 'round and 'round.
Ashes to ashes, without a sound;
Falling to our knees we don the shroud
Of cursing our best, damning the proud.

Subliminal, hypnotic state of bliss.
Nocturnal, infernal, insipid kiss.
We hold our hopes over portentous realms
Of dire need Vanity overwhelms
With stubborn will blinding stupidity,
To play God with the human entity.

The hands of Fate, due humanity's touch,
Indubitably cursed shall bear the crutch;
Dropping the glass, in celebrated toast
Of all we dared to love in life the most.
As the wine with blood congeals into one,
We see the dream, itself, coming undone.

Red-rimmed eyes duly perceive the calling,
Hallowed souls relinquished to the falling.
For the sun don't shine, and the stars don't gleam,
When it hurts too bad to just be a dream.

Is all that we see or seem
but a dream within a dream?

Very good read Micheal, I read it several times in succession.

Desolation of soul would be preferable, but each one hears and follows their own Calling my friend. 'Tis an exquisitely flavored slice of the Dark.

hmm it seems you snuck into my mind - into the places too deep for me, myself, to reach.
I loved the poem and the emotion it conjured for me.

I read this and get absolutely lost in your darkness - - very well written...I admit that your dark side is hard for me to understand. Although I see the beauty in it nonetheless...in your words. I applaude this fine work, sir.
