In the space between moments

0 posted 1999-08-18 12:37 PM

An immortal soul dances within eternal nights, barely seen,
His heart almost frozen by the lonely years, a perfect fiend.
Crimson power courses though his body of breathing stone,
And his eyes are hardened by the grief of being forever alone.

His soul cries mortal tears behind a marble silhouette,
And his mind becomes entwined within guilt's intricate net.
For each time life's power flows through his icy lips,
He takes an innocent human life, God's greatest of gifts.

As years of darkness pass in his world of eternity,
He finds that the vampiric gift is nothing more than painful misery.
So many of his kind can kill without a care,
Perform unspeakable cruelty while showing only hateful stares.

More time rushes by and the blood lust finally subsides,
But his guilt of savage death still remains inside.
He cannot live upon the cloak of darkness anymore,
So he decides that on his life he will shut the final door.

His last night is showered by dawn's early rays,
And at that moment he realizes this is the only way.
So within a fiery blaze his vampiric soul is taken,
And never again will he surrender to blood's deadly sin.

Dang, you should title this one "An Ode to Lestat".

Very good, very good.

thank you both!! LOL, you know what JP? I'm sort of Lestat obsessed (and Anne Rice too, for that matter). This sort of reminded me of Louis, actually...

I'm not sure Alwye, JP says Lestat, you say Louis...

You may be right, Louis may have been the one with soul, though I think it was more self pity, and Lestat seems to be just a whiner...

Who can say for sure? Anyway, excellent poem. I really liked it.

Perhaps Louis did have self pity, but as I read more of the vampire chronicles, I tended to think that he never let go of humanity. But, anyways, thank you for your comments, Majere!

If I am not mistaken, this is the poem that you referred to that is similar to my "Vampyr" ... I enjoyed it, and am glad you decided to post it ...

Human life is fleeting ... or if you are a vampire, fast food (pardon the joke) ... but this poem concludes in the ending of an immortal life ... one wonders what anguish must have been felt to justify that?

Yes, this is the poem. Thank you for your comments, Nochtdraco. Yes, one does wonder what anguish must have been felt to justify the ending of an immortal life. Thanks for your comments!
