Alone to heal

Hurt and pain
darkness and sorrow
here today and more tomorrow.
My life absorbing painful cruelity.
Will anyone ever care for me?
Now is gone forever
no more love now or never.
I wanted to love her in every way.
She would proceed to hurt me day by day.
Two drawn together by a common thread.
Hurt and pain and darkness and sorrow
here today and again tomorrow.
Even today I feel her pain haunting me
and remember my pain begging for her sympathy.

Her pain was always aware.
A broken family bounced her from here to there.
And then on a bad day, her best friend passed away.
This day that proved to be her hardest day.
Death stepped in and stole her friend.
She was sure to hate a loss this great,
this friend who was her mother,
oh, how she loved her mother.
And still today she calls me to say
she was thinking about the death of her beloved mom
that very day.
Once again she is burning with emotion openly
and grieving and mourning endlessly.
Is it true she will never love another?
And so I thought this daughter who lost her mother
would grow to love me like no other
and we would always love one another.
I was the first to receive the news
that her mother passed away on that fateful day.
My memory can share I broke the news to her with love and care
those saddest of sad words that exposed her soul bare.

You can believe me it is not any fun
to tell another they have lost a loved one.
Hurt and pain and darkness and sorrow
here today and still here tomorrow.
A life that dispenses painful cruelity
and today as I offer every sympathy
I wonder will she ever care for me.
On that day I thought somehow this pain
would bond us together.
Would the grief we share help us to care?

My pain was not the same pain as she.
She a daughter who lost her mother,
oh, how she loved her mother.
He a daddy who lost three precious sons,
never more his life for them to share,
to have their daddy always near to care.
A prior divorce took all three away,
the judge said "Be cool, I'll assign a visitation day."
It seems to me this pain we shared inside our hearts
first pulled us together and later drove us apart.
She left me more than a year ago today
and the new pain we share won't go away.

Sometimes I think she blames me
for the death of her mother.
Oh, how she loved her mother
as she could love no other.
I offered every sympathy and again I wonder will she ever care for me?
Maybe her pain won't let her love another
never to be hurt again like that fateful day she lost her best friend.
Enough hurt and despair
we sure could use someone to care.

So we two remain far apart
each looking for a brand new start.
Someday a love gone bad will lose its zeal
and leave our hearts alone to heal.

 In the time we've known
That we each are a part of one another
We've lost as much as we have won...
And as our lives have grown
We have found that it only brings us pain
To hang on to the things that we have done...
***Still I love the times you've come***

"...we were born before the wind...also younger than the sun...
and my heart you have won...as we sailed into the mystic...
I just want to rock your gypsy soul-
just like in the days of old...
and together we will float-into the mystic...

i couldn't say it any better than janet did. i think it is true that the pain that brings two together can ultimately drive them apart. i have had the same experience in a relationship with slightly different kinds of pain. those two you expressed are indeed the hardest pains to overcome. a great poe i related to well. i especially liked the lines:
hurt and pain
darkness and sorrow
here today and more tomorrow....
(the story of my life)
i also hope the both of you can heal and learn to love again. after all, what is life without love.

Thank you Janet you made me smile and laugh.
Thank you danni I'm glad that you enjoyed reading this and could relate to it as well.  I agree with you so much when you say what is life without love.  I would lose all hope if not for love.   James

My sympathies and understanding James.  Loss is hard enough to deal with in the best of circumstances.  I enjoyed this a lot the emotion and all.
Well done as always my friend.

Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely.

Thank you Isis and Jenny.  I have often wondered why we are drawn to another.  And I know of course it is the looks, personality, education, money, power, shared interest and so on, but sometimes we are drawn to another because of our pain, and we feel a connection in our pain.   James
