She Kept Doves


She kept doves,

doves, and kittens,
yes, and the occasional sparrow
if it had no mother

and me,
she kept me too
but mostly

she kept doves.

Don't know what spurred this one or understand, but I really liked it -- I guess, because there is a certainly humility about it -- or maybe it's just the images that doves and kittens and a woman caring for them provokes.
