Exposure

Darkness all around, a distant sound,
An exiting shell through a tube hollow and round...
Huge bright trail and a thud muffled boom,
parachute opens, the bottom end looms…

Searching eyes wide-open, peer out in the gloom,
looking for charlie, to pay him his doom…
Air is hot and heavy, and my sweat rolling down,
gulping in air I swallow it down…

A passionate draw on a joint from a friend,
I put aside fear, and I giggle and grin…
Going home is in my thoughts, day by day,
as I silently, quietly, hope and I pray...

Hours gone by and now turned into years,
I remember the smells, the friends, and the beer,
The memories still fresh at yesterday’s glance,
I smile and thank God, I was given that chance.

"Let every nation know, whether, it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival of liberty."

this gripped every fiber of my being, and so glad to understand that you feel the same, we do so need to fight terrorism.  I've been floundering with this war...one can only hope that we are in Iraq for all the right reasons, to help those people gain their liberty. Abuse is torture! We...who live in this world are all members of a community, no matter how far away from each other we live, we're still neighbors, and we've got to defend our friends rights...how could we turn away and still possess dignity?  Carry on our daily lives and forget about how others in other countries are suffering, starving?  I commend you!

God bless you JL, and all others like you...as you and them will always be our heros...thank you for your steadfast vigulance...for your desire and aclaim, to stand up by us and for us...love to you and yours.
