Listening to every heart

Don’t Count Numbers

Please do not count the numbers
that stack
against me,
like bricks scaling eternity;

but rather, see into Venus, her stare, her star,
her eyes holding on,

and write of it.  Too soon
our hands will shake, our beings, quake,

and what substance then, would we give
fortitude?

Do not count numbers,
but write of spirit,
the gives and takes, the scars and wear;
those who would go to a triumph
larger than their desires…
write of injustices
and conquests,
write the song that lives
within you.

Write it so
the whippoorwill
hears your core on parchment
in scratches,
then scratch your fingers
till your heart pounds
in your ears.

Write, write, so the mourning dove knows
why it sings
at the beginning of moon’s ebb.

~*~

dedicated to the memory
of Pat Tillman

~ Now, let me first state, that the entire poem made perfect sense and reason to me. However, this first verse was so original and captivating that I had do specifically comment on it, alone. It was very good.

Aye,

A brave man who did what he felt compelled to do.  Too many more to number.

A fine tribute to them all Karilea.

"Write the song that lives within you"

~ Wise words ~ and it's good to know that you take your own advice, Dear Sun Ball!

An especially appealing post to this reader ~ poetically, visually and spiritually!

Keep on tra-la-la-ing!
