walking the surreal

I sit upon the grass green field
Sheltered by the arms of an aging Elm
Shaded from mid-day rays of beaming sun
Where the warm breeze wafts of sweet peas
And my lashes fall in flutter to come to rest

Sleep slips in on me unaware
As breast rises in gentle rhythm
And the ship of dreams hoists it sails
To carry me across waters forbidden
Into the mists of wishes unfulfilled

Only in dreams may I capture your image
And step to your side as if I belong
Taking your hand in my longing fingers
And tracing your strength with gentle touch
Catching breath in a stilled heart moment

You turn to look and catch me blushing
Your gaze cradling me in tender caress
And when you smile, oh such a smile
As if lit with the glory of Heaven within
And I am warmed to the very core of me

A meadow lark lets loose with song
And I am stirred from this moment of bliss
Just a breath away from tracing your lips
From consummating desire with loves first kiss
My soul sighs heavy with the bittersweet loss

I rise and walk slowly away
Dreams of such pleasure left to another day
And return to the world where there is no you and I
Only darkened rooms void of the light of your smile
And a half lived life that begs for completion

This is an incredible poem.  It is so heartfelt and passionate.  You have drained the levy of eloquence.  It is all here dancing with perfection.  It flows so well and the imagery is so crisp that I didn't just read it, I watched it.  This is a keeper so well written I would have expected it to be Catalogued in the Library of Congress under its own name.  It is simply an attestation to your deft and innate talent, and your character.  Thank you for writing so beautifully and sharing it with us.

Warm regards,

Kevin

Susan,
  An outstanding conveyance of that feeling;
perfectly written.  You write what I have only imagined to write.  Thank you for posting it!)

Oh, yes, Susan -- I see you've met the Cobra, too.  I still like your idea about becoming a snake charmer!  Really lovely writing here.   ....jo

HI Susan,
You certainly said a lot here. It's sad to have only dreams..and then they go and get interrupted. Sheesh. Beautifully written.

And I am glad Dixie found it,  a beautiful
but certainly bittersweet write.  How dreams
can sometimes bring to us that which we
crave...though haunting they can be as our
awakening slips them away...
