Passions Fire

Caught you
from the corner of my eye
a moment ago,
saw an angel sitting there,
smiling at something I could not see;
something that sparked my jealousy,
thinking that it might not be for me.

Funny how,
after all these years,
a little thing like a private smile
could pinch my heart
the way it did,
could make it double-beat,
could twist my ire,
raise a fire
within my chest.

We grow together
with passing years,
we temper fires
that used to consume our souls
with passionate bliss,
we learn to live
with each others faults,
we share a love
warm and good,
comfortable,
in our wedded space.

Yet,
after all these years
I caught you
from the corner of my eye,
a moment ago,
and felt the passions fire.

Thanks for the kindness you two - and Terry forced me to change the pic too - I wanted another with Ryleigh in it, she's the real charmer.

"We grow together
with passing years,"

That is way beyond my understanding, but then my wife has no interest in reading my (or any one else's) poetry.

I am happy for you and thank you for sharing this, again, with us since I was not around the first time.

Came back to tell ya cause I saw your reply to Corinne's poem,
"What I really miss, is the mornfulness of the Mississippi River boats - When they blew their whistles, especially late in the night when the geese would be flying over honking -
wow! your insides quivered."

I was named after a Mississippi Riverboat..the Nancy Lee...honest!
I have always loved them yet never had the chance to ride on one...
Now geese flying? Hear and see the Canadian geese leave and return each year.

Don't know why..just had a need to tell you that.

Could be that it's 90 degrees and I'm  in a lazy rambling mood...LOL.

Hugs to you and yours.

This is a great tribute to what love is really about.  Thanks for finding a refreshing, way to touch the hearts of those who know what love is but forget sometimes how lucky we are.  This is a heartwarming poem and I appreciate the way it made me feel about my own wife.

With great respect and solidarity,

Kevin

garysgirl  -
well thank you (this has received more hits than I ever expected!), would rather have had Ryleigh in front of me.

iliana –
Definitely SPARKS (sometimes – lol)  - it’s the “sparks” though, that make it all worth while.
Thanks for reading/replying, as always.

passing shadows –
Awwww – thanks my friend.

J.Samm –
me too, when I saw your reply – thanks my Phillippines friend ( was there once in the Navy).

nakdthoughts –
I truly believe in smiles Maureen, I think they are EVERYONE’S best feature.
my granddaughter was born smiling and almost never stops!

Toerag –
was a sailor for four years (not exactly what you’re alluding to, is it), rode a bicycle all the time for many years – sometimes still do (still not up to the allusion, huh) – ahh, an old “cogger” as my kids say,
with a hat and beard – now that is definitely the picture.  All three are old, the hat, about 25 years, the beard at least that, and me, well, if one can improve with age – I must be getting nigh on to perfection (though Terry says my idea of perfection is “flawed”!  Now – go figure.)   Thanks for the hit my man.

LeeJ –
you and I think alike, my friend.  Marriage is a lot harder to keep than to let go,
especially if you want it to have any “goodness” at all.  The “work” never ends – or when it does, generally so does the marriage.  I’ve had my “greener” dreams and I’m sure Terry has also – we’d both be lying if we said otherwise – we’re human, and individual,  for gosh sakes, and like anyone, we get tired, bored,  and many of the other  “things” that come with life, particular in living with the same people day in and day out.
But we always bring the dream home and never let it interfer with reality – reality is truth,  and truth is what we must live with, or our entire life has been a farce.

Thanks f or your comments and reads – I always look forward to reading you.

Sadelite  -
work is the magic word, my friend – marriage and work are the same things, and beauty just naturally weaves itself thoughout when the work is honestly done. Appreciate your words.

Dark Angel –
Hey, I’m pleased you enjoyed, Maree. Thanks.

Aimster –
well, it’s far from perfect, and don’t know if I’d call it lovely but it’s the best we’ve been able to do and have committed ourselves to it’s endurance.

icebox –
Some people, believe it or not, never, and never care to, read poetry – I certainly didn’t for many years in my youth – at least not until I began reading “free verse” where one can turn everything loose without having to be concerned with how a line ends, the number of syllables or how the ball bounces along those lines.  Maybe I’m just to dumb to understand “formatted” poetry, though I do read some now that I truly enjoy.  And it’s a shame your wife doesn’t read the things you write – I think she’d find a whole new you that would fasinate her to no end.  My wife reads almost everything I write (of course I shove it in front of her eyes and don’t leave until she does) and certainly has no quams about telling me EXACTLY what she thinks of it!  And don’t take the “grow together…” too seriously,  if you’re still together you’ve had to have grown, understanding it or not.   Thanks for your imput.
Enchantress –
What ever your reason, I’m tickled you did, wouldn’t have wanted to miss these thoughts for anything.  We see and hear the geese (Snow and Canadian) fly over the house periodically, but haven’t gone to the “fields” to see them in quite a while.  The outlying grain and rice fields are part of their wintering grounds down here in the Houston, Tx. area.  And it’s a shame more people in the area aren’t aware of it.  Seeing the huge flocks lift off in one field and form a giant arch, roughly 50’ to 100’ high across a highway as they settle into a field on the other side, in an almost unending line of geese, is an AWESOME sight to say the least.  Thanks for coming back.

suthern –
I will, and hang on to that dream – even they are beautiful and definitely enhance the reality.
And the reality is out there for all of us to find.

Sunshine –
Thank you, my friend – I think we do compliment one another.

Martie –
Thank you as always for your read, my friend – and your comments.

Suetang –
Hello to you, too!  The picture would have been MUCH prettier with Ryleigh in the foreground!

Kevo –
Thank you my friend – no matter what transpires, you always have to remember why you married her, and what made you feel that way – loosing that can make the trail you follow fade away, and it’s much harder to blaze a new one than it is to build upon, or refurbish the one you’re already walking.

JamesMichael – I always appreciate your read and comments, James.
