If one could see what lay ahead
might it become a gift or curse?
A moment of tremulous dread
or something waiting, far less worse.

A stone of gray and chiseled name
in wait the lie of resting soul.
A moment of money and fame
upon the throw of die in roll.

A lover’s wish for passion and
a life where two are but just one.
A flowery bouquet in hand
as shadows grow beneath the sun.

A time foretold of one’s first born
before conception bears the child.
Or dreams that whisper and forewarn
of flooded rivers running wild.

To hold one’s future in the palm
and see that which has not yet been
A gold filled purse or roiling calm
to quench the thirst of greed filled men.

Interesting thoughts Magnus my friend.
I don't think I would want to know what lies ahead....then again...lol.  Hugs, Chris

Much like the seasoned sailor, we navigate the unknown using the knowledge we accumulate on the journey...
Flipping the weight of these questions from hand to the other...and glad you wrote it.

I too would rather not know.  Then I feel as if I have a choice of direction.  Enjoyed this.

No matter how much one knows, I believe there are still surprises.  Enjoyed your writing very much, Barry.   .....jo

This reminds me of a joke:

A child dreamed of an owl and in the dream the owl told him his aunt was going to die. He awoke, frightened, and told his parents of the dream. His parents dismissed the dream and told him to go to bed. The following morning the phone rang and it was news of the aunts passing during the early morning hours. The following night the boy dreamed once more and in the dream the owl came to him again and told him his father was going to die. Again the child awoke, frightened and ran to his parents room waking them to tell them of his dream. Once more, the told him to go to bed, but the dream weighed on his dad and he did not sleep anymore that night for fear of not rising from his sleep. The next day the father did everything with precision, making sure to do everything as carefully as he could to avoid having an accident. The stress and fear of dying took its toll throughout the day until finally his workday was over and he came home to his wife, exaughsted. He entered the house and said to his wife, "I had the worst day of my entire life today." She replied,"Yeah, well if you think your day was bad, how about mine. I went to answer the door this morning and the milkman dropped dead on the porch."

...would I want to know if I could, no, I don't think so. One of the best quotes I've ever heard simply states, " Enjoy everyday like your on vacation and live everyday like it is your last." I suppose should we all do that, we'd no need to know when our time was up because it really wouldn't matter

Some serious ponderings there, Sir Magnus. Well written, as usual.

A future seen -- a dreaded curse
Devoid of dreams and hope —
It but a trip in a gilded hearse
And lowering of rope.

P.S. You havn't seen "Paycheck" recently, have you?
