Visiting Earth on a Guest Pass

Thin smoke scars the air.
A stump burns deep underground.
Hot clay remembers.

It's not even yet time
for the Santa Ana winds...

for scorchers such as this.

Ed

After the fires in the mountain last year, I went to visit a friend who cares for the dam and walked an area that had been devistated.  One of the timbers soaked in kreasote before it was posted...still smoked, and this was months later.

There is often much power and a few well chosen words like these in your poem.

Can't believe it; we're on the same wavelength again!  I've been toiling with idea of writing about clay since about noon yesterday.  I wrote it today, but it didn't end up with the theme I intended it to have, but yours accomplished it, and rather well, I might add!   Ratleader!  Enjoyed.

Well done, Ed!
