A rose, alas, is but a flower
No hidden charms nor mystic power
To kiss one lightly on the brow
As whisper odes of love’s avow.
Aye, but a flower and nothing more,
No beauteous songs of Terpsichore
From forth red petals satin smooth,
To calm one’s soul in velvet soothe.
Then why I ask must I each night,
Seek out red rose in Luna’s light,
To ache the sweetness of her scent,
Rare splendid bloom from heavens sent?
I seek thee rose for to thy splendor,
I cede my heart, in love’s surrender.

Certainly not the reddest rose
though lovely scent, t'would suppose
that you might grace her bower, fair...
and place it gently, in her hair...

Very nice...so much meaning these flowers can convey when given to a loved one...almost silly, but they do the trick don't they?
