I am doing a reading at a domestic violence seminar this thursday put on by my school...and this is what i am reading...i usually do not post in open, but i thought this one belonged here...

What will it take for me
To break these shackles
That you have so lovingly
Placed around my ankles?
Courage, courage to stand
Up for the person I know I am.

How dare you lay your hands on me,
Then afterward try to press upon your sympathy,
Your half-cocked, fake apologies
Which you never mean.

My little body half awry
Face swollen like Bitsy
Stomach when she eats
Too much.

Arm bruised, back bruised,
My body, your punching bag
Its not every night but
I’m lucky if I escape the week.

But you don’t see this courage
Growing deep in my chest
All the fear runs out of my heart
Now it my turn to strike back.

“No! No more will I take your abuse,
No more will I let you hit me,
It’s my life, don’t you ever forget that!”

It is my life, don’t you ever forget that.

"So what befalls the flawless?
Look what I've built, it shines so beautifully now watch as it destroys me."

I am sure some of the ladies could give you
a few more adjectives, etc....  but, overall
I think you have expressed many of their
feelings well.  Good luck!

(big angel hugs) God Bless You, sweet friend, this made me cry as no child should ever be abused in any way and it saddens me how many struggle to find courage to escape from the torment and open their heart to those who could give unto them! (sad sigh) Your sensitive, compassionate heart reaches out to all, sweet friend, may you get a standing ovation out of this, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Matt, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

eor - great poem addressing a desperately important topic.  I tried to write something about hope...  It's in one of the older Opens - I thought you might like to see it, too.  It's titled, "She's Looking Up"

She'd learned through his discipline,
That her hopes lay on the ground.
And so she lived her live with him,
Always looking down.

She'd learned through his vitriol,
She could never be good enough.
And so she quelled her aching soul,
And looked down instead of up.

She'd learned through his angry shouts,
That her opinion was always wrong.
And so she lived with the selfdoubts
That muted her spirit's song.

She learned through her life with him,
That she had had enough.
She finally decided, "Never again"
And started looking up.

She learned the Future lay in her track,
Pulling her through the miles.
That only the Past saw her back,
Only the Future could see her smiles.

She'd learned that always looking down,
Kept the future from her sight.
Now that she's looking up she's found
She's going to be all right.

Now that the Lady is looking up,
She's going to be all right.

If you need another poem, I hope this helps.  Use it with my blessing.
