Kagali
~*Marge Tindal*~

February under this Cherokee moon
reminds me what legend bids me do
Lay the family table in reverent ritual
for those whose moccasins no longer walk
among us on this earthly plane …
Each season the place-settings more abundant
yet, I follow the dictates of Ancient wisdom
celebrating in the gentle remembrance
of who they were … where they walked
Listening to the voices of history telling me
‘What was … is … and will be again’

Cherokee Moons, February - Bony Moon Kagali
Traditional time of personal-family feast for the ones who have departed this world.
A family meal is prepared with place(s) set for the departed.
This is also a time of fasting and ritual observance.
A community dance officiated by a "doctor" Didanawiskawi,
commonly referred to as a Medicine-person.
Connected to this moon is the "Medicine Dance".

~*When the heart grieves over what it has lost,
the spirit rejoices over what it has left.

Marge,
You give us so much as you share your rich heritage, and I find myself in observance of what feels very right.
Enjoyed this.

Marge,
It's been so long since I've been in the forums, but it's so good to read one of your wonderful writes again!  You have such a beautiful way of expressing this.  Thanks for the little explination on the bottom too!
Beautiful as always!

we do this every year in May (our halloween). its the biggest, most important celebration in our house. we always provide a feast for the dead...knowing they walk among us...and within us.

a very special occassion that im happy to see other people celebrating as well.

this is a lovely poem Marge.

Glad I came upon this. I love to know about these ancient traditions. Honoring the dead in this way, must make them feel really present.
You sad it beautifully.
Love and hugs. Margherita
