She stands on the corner,
waiting.
Wearing her fast food
green.
Hoping she will not be forgotten.

Some days are easier than others,
and she is better able to accept
what she has been dealt.
Not today.

I see her shift her weight
from one foot
to another,
while squinting to see if the next car is it.

I wonder if they understand
the sacrifices she makes.
Or if they just take it for granted,
and demand more.

I know her thoughts
and want to scream to her.
Run don’t look back!
Make a new start.

But the moment is lost
as she climbs into a car
Filled with stagnant air
and adjusts her breathing

Susan, this is a really great write. I felt
as if I were standing there watching her, too....
and seeing much more than her outward appearance.
Hugs,
Ethel

I understand the poem, but the first of it had me thinking something else in the beginning.

I'm sure I'll figure it out.

Good read, Susan.

made me think...  You did a fine job painting the picture with your well selected choice of words.  I enjoyed this, though sad.

Having good powers of observation is one of the abilities of a good writer! I suppose that makes you a good writer, Dear Susan!

Wonderful write again..
I could see the woman,
your use of imagery
and descriptive technique
is beautifully mastered.

You captured this just right Susan. so sad.

I've missed you muchos! xx
