Life’s cherished moments don’t always rhyme
and the sky isn’t always sky blue, either.

Swooping birds of prey sometimes fly my way
and today is one of those days
when I seek a smaller,loftier branch
to perch upon and wait

for a four o’clock shifting wind
to carry me safely home.

Mud mixed with mundane thoughts,
moodiness layered over wet chilled
aching bones seeking warmth;
yes, another day in paradise lost
within the daily grind of survival.

But even this little songbird
believes
in tomorrow.
