I miss the danger of youth in me
I kiss the anger of truth in me
Before I forget all of it again
Just one more time to shout to the end
Never said I would be myself
Only this, that is to know thyself

Yet always there is that thing
In back of the mind where I bring
The baggage of the journey
The weight I struggle to carry
And still there it is as we come to this
Just out of reach from my tightened fist
How it was always me

How in the end, it would always be

Tried to promise over and over to myself
Lied to say to always know thyself

Impressive write.
"To know thyself" requires total honesty with ourselves and it isn't always easy.

Interesting opening,

"I miss the danger of youth in me
I kiss the anger of truth in me"

"I kiss the anger of truth in me"

WOW! What a line! So many thoughts and emotions come out of just those few words!

If you're not yourself, then there is no you.

It can, at times, be more difficult to know one's own self, than another.

I enjoyed your poem!

Tried to promise over and over to myself

I do that daily...sometimes it works and I succeed.

I love to read your work aloud.
You always nail the cadence.
Those opening lines were such a cool poetic hook. Like the way you dropped lines too.
Another poignant write poet sir.

I am sure of my reasons, embracing the seasons,
and the sacred simplicity of you at my side.
