Out Making Anticlines

cats are like that

I watched it happen
but of course
you can’t train a cat
she owns herself
will do
what she will do

what she did was
be less with me
and I saw her sometimes
in the neighbor’s yard
ducking
the neighbor’s kids
stalking grasshoppers
in the neighbor’s grass

oh she came home to eat
would snuggle
to be picked up
but less,
some tiny imperceptible
lessness
creeping in each day
winning her
one hair at a time

he put out a bowl
I knew was food
I tried to compete
with better food,
treats
it worked a while

then absent once

next day shied
from my hand

she’s his now I guess
and I don’t know why
except

cats are like that

Jamie

When I moved here, a neighborhood cat moved in too...he already was more familiar with the rooms then I was...and knew the knack of the kittydoor...and the warm clothes from the dryer.  He brought me corn on the cob still hot from a neighbor's grill once.  Yes, cats are like that.

I enjoyed the layers of meaning in this simple cat tale (tail?)

*will ignore the comment about a cat being fickle* *grin*

cats are like that, but I wouldn't have them any other way ^_^

Enjoyed this!  Remember, dogs have owners..
cats have staff.

Does the last name of your neighbor start with an M?  He seems to collect cats.  Sit there, in the yard, and read your poetry out loud, but in quiet tones...perhaps the cat will hear, and understand, that there is more to you than just food, and a warm home.

I like this sad write very much, my friend... it can be read on several levels... I love the literal... *S* But the more subtle is just as fascinating. *S*

This is so full of human nature
and layered with real feelings
that go beyond the written purr.

Such a nice way with words you have James_A~

I figure I owe you a bump (and an apology *G*) after that rather maudlin trip down the memory lane of my furry friends... *S*  I looked at that this morning and remembered why I shouldn't post after a few choruses of "Red, red wine." LOL

The morning didn't change my liking of your work, though. *S* It's excellent! *S*

yeah. you said it! I have a bunch of strays that I feed...they greet me when I come home at night, they know.

They let me pet their heads, and they eat, and they leave until I get home from work again...lol

somehow I derive the feeling that this could also be translated as a woman...yes?

Good write, either way.

Cute work. We have 3 cats, each with its own personality but they have one common trait...they are felines through and through...and what a bunch of characters they are. One is a lady, one is a snob and the other is just plain brain dead with a stupid look on its face....and he is the male...teehee.......Youngatheart

Cats are smarter than dogs.  You could never get 8 cats to pull a sled through the snow.

Had to share this with you. My girl friend always attaches this with her e-mail.

This is a cute one about those little kitty cats. I have a dog and a kitty. Both are something else.

I love the tone of this one. Great beginning and ending, too.
