A challenge was issued at another site to write a poem based on a given title. This is what I came up with.

It was such a little thing
that arrow in my chest
then came another and a third
to carry me to rest

But there can be no resting
with promises undone
I think I finally understand
I'll stay till Frodo's won

Betrayed by my emotions
then I betrayed him too
the passions, once my downfall
will work to see this through

No grave of water holds me
for I will rise and shine
and through death I'll braver be
the victory shall be mine

I'll hide here in the shadows
and follow Frodo's trail
to offer mist assistance
in this I shall not fail

I see him with my brother
he says he was my friend
these words I shall remember
until the very end

I hold him at the furnace
for this shall be my test
I will help destroy the ring
and go in peace to rest.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

I must confess that I hadn't read Tolkien's treasures until recently... and then, with each page, I wondered where my sanity had been all the years I avoided Middle Earth. *S*

I'm glad I didn't wait years to appreciate you, my friend... this is wonderful! *S* I think you've captured well the strong heart that was overpowered by a yearning for power.

Good job -- I could visualize his presence through your descriptions.

I probably have to get off my hind end
and get to the movies someday to see
for myself, this magnificent story...
it sparks SO many imaginations.

Well done, Keth.
