The Final Crossroad

I came upon a crossroads,
in the middle of a storm
My passion was on empty,
and my will was old and worn

The winding road before me,
looked like all the ones before
The kind with frozen hilltops,
and those smoking valley floors

The trail to the right of me,
led up into the clouds
The raindrops felt like needles,
and the wind was howling loud

The pathway to my left,
had many bridges that were burned
A lifetime of decisions,
that forever will be spurned

I hoped that if I waited,
that this surge would finally pass
I put down my belongings,
and I laid down in the grass

I dreamt about a lifetime,
full of promise and regret
my soul received a cleansing,
and my heart was soaking wet

The warm rain kept on falling,
and I soon was swept away
My last and final crossroad,
All my dues are finally paid

Richy

The road is not always easy, is it...but all those turns and bumps are what help us grow and move on...I've found.  I hope all is well with you....loved this poem!

Richy this was both thoughtful heartfelt and touching

Ahh yes , the rough and smooth , the highs and lows ..... the journey of life ...and on it goes , lifes lessons we learn and keep on learning because the wheels of life keep on turning

Youngatheart ~ That serious side you mentioned Youngatheart? Let’s keep that between me and you... okay... I wouldn‘t want to start any rumors or anything... lol... Thanks Youngatheart!

Chris ~ Chris, it’s so nice to see you here! I hope all is well with you and yours. The caution signs, the yield signs, the stop, and slow down signs... Yeah... I never much payed any attention to them either... lol  Oh well... that’s all in the past now... I haven’t got a ticket... in weeks!   lol  Thanks for stopping in Chris! And for the warm comments!

Thanks Martie! Yeah, methinks all those bumps on the top of my head are what’s making me grow... lol  Thanks for the concern Martie. I’m okay as I’ve ever been. Hey wait! That’s not very good then... lol  Thanks again Martie, you’re the best!

Dawn ~ Oh Dawn, you are just so funny! A souvenir stand huh? What are you selling there? postcards of the future, walking canes, maps of  your destiny... lol  Man, when you said that you’re happy that the hard part (for me) is almost over... geez... I was like, hey, I still got a few years left in me...lol  well, I think I do, that is ... lol  Funny thing is, the poem was about dying, and death. The final crossroad. All the dues, are finally paid. It was interesting to see people interpreting it as a kind of new beginning... I’ll tell you though... I like that thought, a heck of a lot better... in fact...I think I’ll keep it...  Thanks a bunch Dawn!
