Geese this time of year seem nervous
Walking in line to no where on ice
Then heading back to the chorus
Of raucous bands singing anthems
To some uniformed crane of neck
As if unsure whether to risk heading north
Or wondering in their own ways
If life is not easier somewhere south
Of this place now half iced

I watch them shift uneasily in the air
Circling longer before direction is found
With loud protesting calls to ancestral instinct
Never knowing if tonight they will return
Or if they will have come to the conclusion needed
And simply move along to group on other shores
In their regiment of invasion then reveling
Until disillusioned with the current spoils

Twilight and Sunrise cycle always
In shades of red or purple
Royal colors
       A backdrop for these forays
Which leaves me to ponder
How like man this season
Of politics and war

Unsure of what decisions will be made
The call to past history in one-minute sound bites
Juxtaposed on the airwaves for all to hear
Amidst analysis by would be’s or were
More comfortable running head down to chase
Errant words and out impetuous laughs
Than with actually speaking truths

We’d not handle them well anyway
And still look for one to flap wings
Setting the rest to notice that soon
They needed to follow.

Come soon…
The geese will be gone for another season
Some to return
Some to die along the pass of days

Man, however,
          Rarely shows so much beauty
When he flies.

You've aligned these thoughts very well.  I am tired, already, of the rhetoric spouted [although I've yet to hear Edwards do anything but advance his purpose...wouldn't it be nice if he could get it through without slinging any frozen mud and still come out ahead?...nice guys and something about last...sigh...]

I don't think I'll tire of watching the geese try to make up their minds, however.  When I hear them, I seem to stop and lose myself in their time...and they pass by far too quickly....

thank you Sir...

I needed this little bit of goosedown...

Ron

I'm glad you posted this.  It is so filled up with thought.

and

"Man, however,

When man is so full of thought, it is difficult to get off the ground...but you do it quite well, my friend...you fly with the geese.  Hugs!

OMG that is so simply stunning.....

and this

Man, however,
Rarely shows so much beauty
When he flies.''''

right on the mark....isn't it amazing that god can grant us these types of beauties, and somehow we seem to take it all for granted.....sigh....your heart is gold, I am convinced of that!

This is a treasure Cpat and I am going to keep it.

Absolutely wonderful!

I'm grateful you didnt get presidents day off
we'd of missed this write of wisdom wrapped imagery.

Well I cant say what I might believe ...

I'd love to make some cerebral comment... but this begs quiet thinking...

Excellent work!

"The geese will be gone for another season"

This pre-election promises to provide us with a bumper crop of one liners.  This is one of them.

My favorite so far is that Kerry is Kennedy without the hangover.
