Laying on a rectangle
my stomach pressed against the cloth
Head tilted sideways
Waiting for the sun
to burst inside the box

Finally it cracks
Light sends shards across the floor
I see you float in
And my heard bursts

Somehow you find the hall
A maze of squares
Lines and caves
All the way back to your space
Beyond the panels I wait
Still more rectangles in my box

Back through the maze myself
Leaving you behind
Around and around the oval
Your ice oval
Crystals down below
Blades scratch designs
Twists, spirals, and figure-eights
Diamonds, stars, and zig-zags
Carved by your design

Sticks and discs
Slide across the surface
Crescents netted to catch the power

More rectangles still
I rest my anxious bones
Chatter made from lines
Your line steadies below

Blurs of blue and white
Back and forth against the wind
Shivers
Stripped down, it’s cold.

Sweat drips from your curls
Disappointment storms the Blue
Blue spheres I love
Blue spheres I lay on these rectangles for

Simplified, you see
It’s a rectangle block
Trying to fit in an oval hole
Basically, I’m the wrong shape
Basically, I don’t fit

Back to my padded blocks
I watch you float out the door
The shards creep back
Dragging heaps of baggage
My cold cowboy rides off again

....................

Laying on a bench
My stomach pressed against the cloth
Head sideways
Waiting for the sun
To come thru the door

Finally the door opens
Light floods the room
I see you walk in
And my heart bursts
Inside the room

You walk down the hall
Past doors
Closets and storage
Back to your room
I wait on the other side
Panels of wood block my view

Return down the hall
I leave you behind
Around and around the rink
Your ice rink

Blades scratch designs
Tightly crossed
Intertwined shapes
Carved by your design

Sticks and pucks
Slide across the surface
Nets there to catch the force

Climb up the stands
I rest my anxious bones
People talk about nothing
A game’s played below

Blurs of blue and white
Back and forth
Bundled up
Covered up, it’s still cold

Sweat drips from your hair
Disappointment clouds your eyes
Blue eyes I love
Blue eyes I lay here for

Complicated, you see
It’s a rectangle block
Trying to fit in an oval hole
Basically, I’m the wrong shape
Basically, I don’t fit

Back to my seat
I watch you walk out the door
The light leaves the room
Following you in your bags
My cold cowboy rides off again
