Wow, it's been a long time since I've been around here (not that I posted much even when I was).  But even though I'm a freshman in college, I still qualify as a teenager, and I figured while I'm here I'd leave this.  And yes, it's fairly long--I'll warn you before you begin.

“The girl who loved you…”
What does that bring to your mind?
Why are past sorrows so easily reflected
In the mirrors of our hearts?

If I were the drinking kind of man,
Tomorrow morning I’d wake up—
Everything inside on fire
And alcohol’s haze for my breath.
If I were the type to let my blood imbibe the air,
You’d see the scars on my wrists and arms—
Visible reminders of miserable tears,
Slicing just to feel I’m still alive.

How could she leave me?
“You’ll have to do better than that.”
I never was the touchy-feely type, love.
Now, I let it all pass with “It’s over”?
Those painful pricks come with every rose;
Why am I surprised to find them in the greatest plot I’ve seen?
I’ll make it or I won’t,
But it’s hard to care anymore…

Without the girl who loved you—
All the sweetness that she brought your songs,
The strength she lent when your own failed,
A spark for warmth in winter’s death.
Has the harmony left us now?
I can’t always find the beauty in my voice,
But I remember the loveliness when you sang—
But now, without the one who loved you.

Will I be the angry type, and attack the world around me?
Will I be the lonely type, and drown myself in sorrows dark?
Will I wake tomorrow morning, and just lie atop my bed?
Will I sleep tomorrow night, and find you haunting every dream?
Yet I have to go on living if I wish to chase my dreams
Of love, of hope, of beauty, of a strong simplicity.
I must embrace the future and destroy these brooding fears,
We live for a bright morning day to rise…

With the girl who loved you—
Bringing back the smile you lost and songs you didn’t know you knew,
A patient heart to quell insecurity in your mind,
Leading you by the hand as you face your darkest fears.
I wish you could have known me long ago,
Perhaps I could have sung for you then.
These eyes have seen too many sorrows to fully return to rest, but you help—
But now, with the one who loved you.
