A little girl in a green dress Broken limp body set aside for a grieving mother No need for her schoolbooks now A little boy in a white shirt and brown pants Scared but alive, handed over to a grateful father Rescued from the rubble Balakoff, an ungodly 7.6 moment of a forceful earth thrusting images of frantic people, grieving, grabbing imagery which parallels Biloxi, New Orleans, Banda Aceh, Central America, and much of Africa The rescuers come with medicines, food and water. but we never seem to arrive on time for those in deep despair and even though we all try to respond at a moment’s notice, we cannot be there until many hours or days after the roofs collapse. The fear and anxiety levels rise beyond the clouds of suffering, scream to the skies above the overwhelming state of human trauma. And it is when I see scenes such as this I curse whatever gods I may have praised the day before |
