when he came to this big city,
people here just mocked his different ways.
he went walking barefoot through central park,
with a gazing smile; they thought him crazed.

yet to me they were not the sane that they thought they were.

plucking an old stringed wooded instrument,
he stood out for hours in the rain.
singing these songs about his childhood and ours,
it surely could've eased the passer-by's pains.

yet to me they were not the sane that they thought they were.

maybe if we all had taken off our own shoes,
and spent time singing with him before he passed,
we'd've realized the standard's not set that high,
and sung with him, letting our insane gazing smile last...

yet to me we are not the sane that we think we are.

dedicated to a truly incredible, noble, talented yet beautifully insane man.

of all the things we try to find... it's only love we keep.

Sometimes it's necessary to run a stick along a fence and skip stones and catch snowflakes on your tongue.  Sometimes you need to climb a tree with no shoes on and no regard to the tree sap.  Once in a while we all should sing at the top of our lungs to our favorite song and rock out like it didn't matter who was watching.  Sometimes it's just what we need.  ~the pleasantly insane~

You're a cool friend.  I'm not quite as mentionable as the man singing, since I'm still waiting for my "ship-out date", but yeah this is a beautiful poem.  If anyone rocks its Jesus.  I saw a poster with him playing guitar.  lol.

OK, Eve... I bow. WOW!
This was an awesome message!!!
Mike, the messenger, conveying his own message through poetry that Rich Mullins would've been proud of (guess you got the CD? lol), to the rest of the not so sane world! (And yes, I sensed the hint of foretelling for Craig).
I'm so impressed with this! If you'll grab a guitar and sing (for I could do neither), then I'll at least do the barefoot in Central Park thing and try to be more sane than I think I am not...lol

Oh so good, Eve!
We are all crazy! And we should always sing at the most random of times.

"'Cause I'm free, to do what I want, whatever I want...any old time!" And barefeet are so much more comfortable.
Hollow.

If I could have caught you
Watching him barefooted in Central Park
I'd have to have come up to you
& embraced you with a hug
While his song rang out
from beyond us both.

I was extemely moved, Eve.
& this poem was a befitting tribute
To what life should be for us all.

I spent many days in central park.  Reminds me of days so long ago.  Thanks for the post, enjoyed much.
