"Hey Mom", my daughter called one day, "Hey Mom", we've bought a flat
And we have fourteen days or so to paint and clean and do all that
I thought you'd beter come over, to give us a helping hand
Because when I have to do it myself, it's not the wood where paint would land

I know you like to paint the windows, the walls and even the doors
It's just for the painting we need you, someone else will manage the floors
Oh Mom and when you see Daddy, will you tell him we need him too
Right after you have finished painting, he has to move a load or two

With all the animals you two have, I know you can't come together
But one by one is fine with us and pray for some nice weather
And I stood there remembering, when I heard those words before
Not long ago we've moved the other and in passed times some more

I've lost the count of all the times we moved them out or in somewhere
Moved partners in and their exes out when they changed loving care
We thought it would stop when they settled down, but appearently not so
When they're on the phone and say "Hey Mom", I know I have to go

I took days off and in two weeks I'll drive some hundred miles up North
I do what they asked and will paint the flat, driving back at the twenty fourth
We'll celebrate Chrismas, the two of us and next day it's Daddy's turn
To drive up North and move them out, bad weather's our only concern

You out there, listen carefully, when you have kids of your own
Don't think you can enjoy your freedom, not even when they are grown
But if you would ask me "Do you mind?", I will truthfully say "Oh no!"
When they're in need, then we make time, pick up our big Van and go

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

I touched by this, make me miss my Mother to ask to help with the little things, big things too.  I am thankful for all she did when she could, even when asked too much.

Titia, I laughed and made faces all at the same time. How many times have Ron and I done this? I've totally lost count.

And now our middle one is moving to Prague and I wonder how he'll manage with us so far across the sea!

Hugs my friend, Marti

My Dad is no longer able to offer physical assistance... but as old as I am, I still occasionally yell for emotional (or in really bad times financial) help. *S* This is lovely, Titia... and you're loving to go help! *S*
