slightly modified famous write:

When in the Course of (in)human events,
it becomes necessary for one people
to dissolve the political bands
which have connected them with one another,
and to assume among the powers of the earth
the separate and equal station
to which the Laws of Nature
and of Nature’s God
entitle them,
a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires
that they should declare the causes
which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident,
that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their Creator
with certain unalienable Rights,
that among these are
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Beautiful words we accept
as our collective reality,
unless you are non-white and/or female.
For I have heard too often
from people who read the ‘men’ reference
as being gender specific,
who have justified
segregation, abuse and isolation
as being God’s will.
And that mindset leaves me
pondering everything
from the lowliest four legged creature
to the so-called upright human form
and all else 'twixt and 'tween.
And that's when I tune myself in
to my own inner core of Being.
And I remember that
my God is a brilliantly circled rainbow
of all-encompassing nonsexual Unconditional Love.
That other player on the field of Life and Death,
the one you may call the Devil?
Nada...simply a dark negative.
He is Non-Existent because I choose
to make Him so.
And as for these inalienable Human rights?
I generally extend similar rights
to all living entities,
while respecting the laws of Nature’s God
as I position myself within the circle of Life.

(And you thought my other writes were
often a bit outside the circle…)

He is Non-Existent because I choose
to make Him so.
And as for these inalienable Human rights?

as I position myself within the circle of Life.
