Can you believe he took back the ring?
That thing was the only part of the marriage I liked,
according to him,
So why should I be permitted to keep it.
He doesn’t think I’ve earned it.
That ring.
It was just bling anyway.
Just sitting on my finger reminding me of the suffering,
The crying, the waiting, and the lying.
No surprise I wasn’t happy,
And the ring just had shine, that’s all.
It was never really mine, anyway.
It was on loan till the relationship fell.
And time tells us that most will fall.
Call it what you want, but I call it content,
Cause time with you was not well spent.
And who needs a reminder, sitting in a dresser,
Just a depressor if you ask me.
But you didn’t. You just took it.
Took one look and pocketed it.
I left you with nothing,
So I shouldn’t have anything either.
But that ring,
It's the thought that stings,
but it was just bling anyway.

My ex asked for the ring.  The audacity.  It had no sentimental value to me, but it was quite valuable.  He didn't get it back, and I no longer have it.

It's crazy isn't it. They put so much value in that thing.

Well, I actually think they think WE put so much value in it, that in asking for it back, they believe they are causing some final pain.

In my case, it was just another sigh of his stupidity, and mine, for having believed him in the first place!

BTW, I do value the rings I wear now...Claddagh band and diamonds;  however, when a union is broken, for whatever reason, their initial symbol-age (like that word) is wiped clean and they are just things.

Just my view.
