There is a hopelessness in calls that never come,
an emptiness in holidays shared alone.

A challenge to the soul graced once by love,
when tears begin their flow from eyes that dream.

Do you ever feel the "once upon a time"
of storybooks and journeys life has held?

When early morning "use tos" were routine
and hand in mine felt warmth beyond the conscious stream...

~~*~~

I watch the lights that fingers deftly placed,
the ribbons on a tree that shimmers gold.
And feel the hunger that exists beyond the smile
that greets the evening darkness and its cold.

My innocence of child within is lost,
as cards of memory connect to weave the close
of holes that blanket how I feel in thoughts.
A mending comfort needed, I suppose.

~~*~~

Too many years  have come and gone
Too many moments never realized as "somedays."

My journey towards an end soothed only by words,
a collection of me, pressed neatly to be exposed.

I wear my longings well, and someday will break through
the illusions I have hung that shine upon my tree.

This speaker in this one seems to howl mutely in despair at what is and what was and what should be; hopeless, but still retaining that small glimmer, candle light off tinsel, that something more may yet be. Perhaps that is in the sap, guarded by spiky leaves heavily adorned with memories.

As you can see, this one got me thinking...always a dangerous notion.
