Santa, Somewhere Out There

Sugarplums, and candy canes,
Smells from the kitchen pour into the air
Little ones with their noses pressed to the windowpane
Hoping to see Santa somewhere out there.

A fog forms from breathing there
rubbing the fog from the pane
Is Santa out there with his bag of toys to share?
Mama is that Santa up there?
"No that's a plane!"

Pj's, and slippers; freshly bathed,
getting ready for bed.
“Go to sleep early, and Santa will come.”
Laying there, trying to sleep
But just can't forget,
can’t get Santa out of my head.

What's that?
Mamaaaa what's that noise on the roof?
Is that Santa, and the reindeers hoof?
I heard something mama.
“No it's just the wind
But go to sleep..
Santa's right around the bend.”

“If you're awake he'll just ride right on by
He just might be right out there in the sky
So hurry, go fast asleep
I want you to be quiet
I don't want to hear a peep.”

Silent for a little while
Just too excited to sleep still
Anxious; couldn't help how I feel
Did we forget the cookies?
Did we forget the milk?

Every little bump, every little noise
I'd sit up in my bed
thoughts filled with Christmas toys
But I'd remember what my mama said.

So under the covers,
prayers said.
Lay down that sleepy head
Eyes growing heavy, lights getting dim
Gotta go to sleep, that noise,
Shhh, it just might be him!

Well I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender...Dido

This was a great poem! It made me think of when i was little. It is strange how different views of Christmas were when we were children. I love the holidays! Great write.

(smiles) Awwwwwwwww, I too was curious as a little boy and wanted to always see Santa and would be sneaky and stay awake like a naughty little boy so I can glimpse him and give him a hug, hehehe! (kiss on cheek) I believe him in my heart always, sweet friend, God Bless You, I send peppermint hugs your way, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Terri, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Awwww thanks Noah I was always anxious, but never saw Santa, but one time thought I woke for a minute, and saw his boot. I had to sleep in the living room that year, because of company needing a place to sleep. Not naughty just wanting to hurry, and fall asleep so I could wake up the next day for the presents he'd leave under the tree. Beliving in Santa gave it magic.Merry Christmas.
Love,
Terri~
