standing on a shadow's lace

Velvet

velvet is my grain

my heart is such that
it can not be bartered
nor is it complacent
   I do admit
   it is demanding
   wanting all
   or nothing

it was not my heart
that before betrayed me
yet a free will
that let me
accept so little
giving so much
in return

and there were times
it has been
I have cocooned
myself in ache
of stretch of wing
wanting this
pleated fabric
turned loose
free to fly
on breath

but let silk cords
crush deeper
than surfaces
creasing beyond
to start over
yet again

so here
it lingers again
impatiently heavy
waiting for tips
of light fingerprints
to hold it
in courageous grace
and in acceptant strength

scratching so clearly
a name
on sweet
layers of
velvet

Incredibly strong writing Helen, and to be honest, this is why I am still single again to this day.  Loved this one, felt the "heart" in it.  Merry Christmas to you!

Intriguing, your poetry often has made me think of velvet.

Thank you for posting this.  My mind is more clear now.
