In search of the treasures of Auguste,
I stroll silently
along a southern sandy beach.
Pelicans, gulls, egrets and sandpipers
sit within arms reach.
I find Michael by the azure waters edge,
paint brushes in hand
deftly painting proud sails upon the seas,
warm wet sand beneath his toes,
knees in graceful genuflect,
thanking his God
for the gifts of art,
seeking the warmth and healing
only his God can truly offer.

He wields in his hand
the God-gifted power to share
the abundant beauties of the sea,
and all creatures that abide there.

As I quietly slip past,
to not disturb this special moment,
I notice the birds on the shoreline
watching his every brushstroke,
the same way I imagine
they watched Vincent so long ago,
and their combined concentrated gaze tells me
they are thankful for people like Michael,
who honor all life with unconditional love,
and willingly share the beauties of life.
