The hour's orbit, light and shadow all
enfolding, apes the very beast that birthed it
with its terrible redundancy, and walls
the eye around in muted, ashen palette.
Innocuous tick!  Infest the pauses of our
speech with such galactic sprawl and chain
in tethered bond my tongue upon the hours
failing endlessly to wake a second dawn.
Leave the old man to his stale and metered breath!
The blood yearns nightly upward to the moon's command
where the circuit of the old words jump their track
over rooftops flaming windward to the sea.
