[Fortuna was the Roman Goddess of good fortune and happiness. On certain lucky people of her choice she bestowed large fortunes. However, on those that had fallen from her grace she bestowed poverty. Fortuna was also regarded as the Goddess of chance.]

Chicken Drop

Cease the tears and tales of woe--
Let my sorrowed heart have rest!
I found a game that I can win--
oh-how-lucky can I get?

Just a simple game of chance--
oh I won the lottery--
watch a well-fed chicken dance
Fortuna finally smiled on me.

Before my disbelieving eyes
on my lucky number square--
that chicken did what chickens "do"
(and no, she didn't lay egg there)

I won--I WON--I can't believe--
(the chicken? She was quite relieved.)
I proudly held my ticket high--
eager me in claim of prize.

"The money is all yours," they said.
"But first you have to clean the mess."
Paper towels and windex--
Fortuna wickedly laughed last
.

A memory from sparked by Tim's Poultry in Motion--and for those who don't know what sort of game "chicken drop" is, here's a link:

They used to be held every Wednesday night at one of my old stomping grounds, Carrollton Station.

Serenity...Damn for a minute there I thought you really won the lottery and I had a rich friend. LOL. Enjoyed the humor.
Thanks for sharing. Your links don't work, I would love to know what a chicken drop is if you can fix them...Paul

hahahaa I read the rules, and saw the pic of the chicken drop...funny one!! I just hope they are never hurt, or anything mean to them. Maybe lunch would be their worst end, let's hope.
Love,

Now I must go see the related poem.
I thought this had something to do with the chicken dance.
Good thing you added the meaning...
Love ya lady!

As a collector of the graceful(?) chicken I hope no chickens were hurt in the execution(wrong choice of words)of this poem!

heck fire, we call it heifer bingo up here and you need something a lot bigger than a paper towel...  (if it covers more than one number, which is often, you have to weigh to determine on which square the most landed)
And some folks say us Kansans don't know how to have a good time...

smile. Tim?

That's the second time today you made me *wince*.

Um...I hesitate to ask...but are the pre-game rituals the same?

(I'm trying to picture ya blowing on a heifer's butt.)

yikes.

My mind is WAY too visual.

giggles and grimace
