Daddy Warned Her

Daddy warned her,
but her
Catholic school
uniform
persona
was in search of glitter

Metallic blue,302
caught her eye
and captured her essence

Engine idling,
she, a beautiful
Mustang in search of
freeway freedom,
willing to pay
the price...

Breaking commandments,
and
Daddy’s heart,

She shifted
into high gear,
setting abandon ablaze,
leaving behind a graffiti
trail of burnt rubber,

“I was here,”
heard ‘round every
corner in squeal’s peel.

Leaving school girl
innocence in the dust
of open road,
she heads for fast lane
crash ‘n burn

Absent repent,

Daddy’s warning
distant in her
rear view...

When I was a kid, my mother used to threaten to send me to Catholic school when I acted up.  I just grinned and thought, "Cool, that's where all the fun girls are!"  Sorry Patricia, the warning is lost on me, too...but loved the poetic graffiti.

and was the glitter
silver?  or gold...
or the spark
of blue?

Well done, Patricia.

Hi Patricia,

When I first started reading this, I thought you were writing about your daughter.
But then I realized you were writing about your own youth.
Hey, there’s only so much a parent can do, right?
I think that free minded, and independent spirit wears well on you!

And I can just see you taking the reins of that untamed stallion, breaking him,
to submit to your wild abandon...lol
I bet you broke more hearts, then you will ever know!

This was rather spicy for a Sunday morning.
I Love it!

Great to see you, back in the saddle again Patricia!
This was great!

I knew...as soon as you mentioned the car....  that this was YOU!!!!  I think most
all of us have had that blood in our veins
at one time or another...

Nicely written....personal...yet so true of
many....  Moi?  of course...

Patricia, I related very much to the car and, Dad's warning, and the fast lane. My Daddy always threatened me with youth detention school, but never did send me. He still tries to warn me about things. LOL

A very good poem, Patricia. You had me there.

(giggles in delight) I believe to truly live you have to be respectful and responsible but I also believe you have to be daring and a little reckless! (smiles) Who could blame someone for wanting to have just a little fun, hehehe, I just love your sass and wit here, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Patricia, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

I learned how to drive a standard on a Mustang...later I fell in love with the power of a '69 GTO..

I know the feel..

Patricia,
ahh you brought me there you did . . .
but you see?  I blame it on the whole Catholic school thing for my rebellious nature as a child
(that is my story and I am sticking with it)
*smile*
I adored this
awesome writing, again

Patricia, you have been conspicuous by your absence!!! --and after having read this delightful outpouring of ink, I believe I missed you even more than I thought!

I love the nostalgia, spirit and spunk of this write!

Loving hugs and smiles across the miles,

(chuckling)... shame on you..such a bad girl to ignore dad...
Now me, I was the poster child for heeding the warnings of my elders...

shucks... I didn't even get married until I was 16... can't believe you acted so impulsively as a youth...

This is very well done, and a great memory for all of us who looked for the glitter when we were kids... uh... except for me.. I loved Sr. Mary Agony and her steel ruler... uh... Did I just say that???
lol
Great job.
