As I look into the mirror,
Every morning when I shave.
The two eyes staring back at me,
Are like an open grave.

I don't mean that they're evil.
Full of hell or cruelty...
I just see two pools of emptiness...
Staring back at me.

What happened to the laughter,
Which used to make them shine?
What happened to the passions-
Which once were so much mine?

The flames are gone forever,
Mere ashes now remain...
I guess it true, "Time changes things...
And naught remains the same."

Perhaps I am a cynic-
I hear it all the time.
I'm told my words are morbid,
There's no cheer within my rhyme.

At best I'd just say, Maybe,
The things they say are true...
But I remain the way I am,
Do what I have to do.

Gunslinger:  I always enjoy reading you...I like your style.  I bet the flames aren't gone forever, it only feels that way right now.  One day you will see a glimmer of hope in those eyes.   ~K~

John...I believe you must have had me in mind when you wrote this. It mirrors my life so much. We are what we are, and too many that is enough, but to some everything is never enough. Enjoyed reading you today...Paul
