Overspill – Konrad’s Thoughts Before Turning Back

Photo, Courtesy C. D. Jungel

From the dike, there is a small
overspill
where crickets sing to the fall
and water pools a tree’s
reflections
of how summer passed
to the song
of birds,

wind

and decisions.

The distance calls
like a beckoning finger
but that is north

and I must head south

to see if Dana will trust
the blending of her strength
with mine
that we might grow new strengths
from embers and ashes.

Blood ties are strong
but the good ones, let you loose
to find the truth.

A lone nest lingers
somewhere, a mockingbird
mimics a meadowlark
as quail scurry

and a coyote hangs back
for a taste
from the
overspill.

The north wind
will push me to her.

I enjoyed this..and the image. I know such places and have spent many an hour wandering in and through just such as that.

oh yes-- I love those verses and all they encompass and intend.!!
embers and ashes

moths find all their truths there

Heres to heading south and to "blendings" ...
for I know the inspirations that are to be found there.

Nothing gold can stay."

KJ,

You really are quite good at this.  Your
words set the mood of the scene so delicately
and perfectly,  I can sense the Autumn
winds,  the chill before the North winds
blow winter into the haven of a small
overspill....countless frogs....scurrying
way from the occasional predator...looking
for a winter's den to rest within.

thanx for sharing this.

I hear the birds singing and the crickets....
Wait...is that a frog I hear croaking?

An excellent poem and picture to go with it, SunshineyOne.
