(Once again, I'd love to thank our dearest Ron for dedicating all his heart to making this family shine! I am proud to forever say Passions feels like a second family to me, which Iall my brothers and sisters I love so much!)

Harsh Year
By: Noah Eaton
10/7/03

Solicitors creeped up on my lawn
I pulled out the warning sign
Added myself to the no-call list
The garbage has been brewed in oregano
Bouillon so sweet as Brunswick stew
A sugar-free saccharin Gobstopper
Until you can taste the ersatz presidency
Like rubber cement airplane food
Watch your freedom's privilege stripped away
Like the jumping legs of a grasshopper
Like a faithful boy's second wind...

Recall this total recall, I beseech
When will we take the time to practice what we preach?
Hand me a mirror
So I can recognize these faces

I knew the whole damn thing was a lie from the start
Recalcitrant rebuses ruthlessly bashed against our skulls
All men are created equal a truth no one buys
The truth's hidden in Clue's confidential folder
Frozen like flies in ice cubes while we're baptized with lies
Invade boundaries, steal the oil, double toil and trouble
Father, educate, hypnotize their children as their own
Forget what your parents taught you, you're one of us
Save your own keister and blame it on the other meister

Recall this total recall, I beseech
When will we take the time to practice what we preach?
Hand me a mirror
So I can recognize these faces

I'll never believe that crap
That it takes war to make peace
Don't you notice their callous handshakes
Half-baked stale-cake coconut-shaving smiles?
Flick off your thick opinion, slick wick
Or you'll get dixie-chicked
Don't ask what you can do for your country,
ask only what the country can do for them

Recall this total recall, I beseech
When will we take the time to practice what we preach?
Hand me a mirror
So I can recognize these faces

The papers won't lie, but they hesitate to tell the truth
Kobe Bryant and Rush Limbaugh hog the news
While breaking ice shelves and others personal hells
Get dragged down to page 26AA
Movie production companies warring over the rights
To Jessica Lynch and a sniper creep
Back me up and forget the rest
They call it democracy but we're all just ashes

Recall this total recall, I beseech
When will we take the time to practice what we preach?
Hand me a mirror
So I can recognize these faces

Radio goes solo, oh no
Rove drives the entire ozone
Amber Alert, red alert
Every few seconds, the sirens hurt
Leave us alone or you will pay
Otherwise if you want to spill blood, be my guest
The true "weapons of mass destruction"
Is not some botulinum in a vial
It is anger, hatred, and manipulation
There goes the neighborhood,
there goes the next
All for one and one for all
We won't have it any other way
Bow down to me or I'll push you around
I'll silence you, I'll suppress you to the cold ground

Recall this total recall, I beseech
When will we take the time to practice what we preach?
Hand me a mirror
So I can recognize the faces I once knew...

This has been another harsh year
When will we have the ears to hear?
This has been another harsh year
When will we have the ears to hear?

I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth
I can see the sun set and I perceive

***Live***

Nice, Noah. It kinda reminds me of Peter, Paul and Mary singing "Where have all the flowers gone?" Lots of truth here..gentle smile

Noah, I enjoy your social commentary and the historical account of the past year in review. --and I did save it! I don't have to pop back in this time and announce to the world that I forgot to save it the first time 'round! lol

Wonderful write, my friend! You are a brain with a heart! lol

Wow I loved this. I liked the way social issues were talked about, and so true we all have to learn to practice what we preach, and hold the mirror to ourself. Like Micheal Jackson's song--- Man in the Mirror..we gotta make that change.
love, and hugs to you,
Terri~

Hi Noah, and I have to tell you that these feelings are now worldwide, since leaders have joined forces. It's an era of helplessness and insecurity, which you depicted in the questions here, but it's not confined to the US alone.  There are regular people in every country asking these same questions...but it seems the leaders have no ears to hear.  Many thanks for this poem, lil brother, as it is so very true, so very....~S~
