Listening to every heart

0 posted 2003-08-08 12:17 PM

The creak of the old wood swing,
the screen door letting in out,
katydids slowing down a molasses day,
and crickets trying to
find the cool of a basement

mourning doves who wake me gentle,
smell of balmy coming through
the blinds,
and misting roses so I can stand
in the floating spray

are we there yet echoes from
a station wagon modernized,
counting down the white strips to home

hummingbird giggles fade
as a sultry moon shimmers gold,
waking up the stars

these are summer sounds

to enjoy now

Karilea,
I am sitting by my open window -
after midnight and yes, I do hear them too.
*smile* a nice slight breeze . . .
this is summer indeed
Beautiful

Karilea, what a beautiful poem this is to take the fall down the page so quickly. Well, it's back up there now.

Thank you for reminding of these summer sounds.  I believe I have been too preoccupied with my "summer of discontent" to have breathed the sounds and sights of the season.

I think I shall venture outside this evening and take walk in summer's freedom.

Very lovely!

Wow, Karilea, yes I hear these summer sounds too .... especially the crickets! We have been to the park this morning (early because otherwise it is just too hot) and the concert was unbelievably noisy! My husband found that there was nobody around and I said "listen"!
Thank you for the lovely summersounds.
Love and hugs. Margherita

Wonderful imagery!  Almost enough to take the edge off the heat!

Hello Karilea

I can only live Summer through your beautiful words thankfully.  It is going to be less than 10 degrees celcius here in Melbourne today but your words made me feel warm, thank you.

Take care......Sue

Hey...I looked up 10C today for another "down under" poet and that's 50F in our temps...and "up here" in our neck of the woods, that's comfortable! LOL...so I'm glad I gave you a bit of summer...for all my downunder friends!

A huge thanks to all my poet friends who click in and read, and take time to comment.  It means more than you know!  I don't often get back to respond to my own...because I'm out, reading yours!

to my poets!

I really love summer... But then, I love every season...

This summer hasn't felt too much like a usual summer, which is good and bad. It's not quite so hot here in Ohio as last year, but the mosquitoes are TERRIBLE because of all the rain we've had!
