Listening to every heart

0 posted 2003-08-30 07:26 AM

Now it’s here…

Private turning points are
silently held here, inside,
and now, mine are churning…

this “time” should go into a journal
telling the selves of me
“shhh, hush now, no one should know
you feared anything…”

but then, how human
is that?

The quiet fear of me I shall not tell,
nor reveal, these revelations being
too much for any one to consider,
as, why should one have to?  Yet…yet…

here lies a fear, which now, having been
trammeled by insouciance, possibly quelling
a life once so
                                                                      bright!

You know, a life once so
forgiving of all others…

now wondering what he/she/I did wrong…

“You did just fine,”
were words said while [I] standing in private cower,
behind veils of gray shadowing in,
I had once known this fear,
in the before of today, and I knew its grip well…

and in its grip again,
all I could think was, “please, let go”

but the day highlighted, then lowered
into an abyss…of
what I had been,
                                 or could be,
once had been,
                                 then was…

nightmares are like this,
                                   upending one into
a maelstrom of contentions.

I walked through this time of what I had
not wrought upon myself
unless, was this a fear of me
and who I only thought I was,
that had come to call?

Pranks are one thing;
                                             Reality another.

I know what is real;
                                             I want what is good.

I am an eternal optimist.

                                             Shenanigans should be solidly sold
on Halloween…

but this is not 1953 anymore.

K-
This poem reminds me of the Cold War and possible nuclear attacks, when children were shown reel-to-reel films on safety (huh, safety?) if the communists decided it was time to end the capitalist machine.  When I was in elementary school, they did not show such films; however, the threat was always in the back of my mind. I remember as a child lying awake at night, thinking about what ifs.  I have discussed this with my friends today, and many felt the same way.  This reminds me of a personal nuclear attack.  Does that make sense?

You have definitely left a mark on me with this, Karilea.  I dare say, I will have a few lying awake moments in the what if realm.

Methinks there is very much flowing under the surface of the already roiled waters of this fine poem.  Ken

The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

optimists
pessimists
realists
all drink
the same cup

and must turn
at the point
when the road
bends

not
breaking

or

retreat

Sunshine.:-)
Sounds as if some historical baggage is still being carried?
"silently held here, inside,
and now, mine are churning…"
Loved the form and how it delivered the messege...
Thanks for sharing.

Kari,
I can't say I understand what this is about but I do hear you loud and clear.
