A Stranger Knocks
By Paul Wilson

On a cold gray December morn
I heard a knocking at my door
Who could it be I asked myself
with feet skipping across cold floor

I didn’t recognize the face
that was now staring back at me
As I opened the door he said
sorry sir… could you please help me

I opened the door and said yes
come warm yourself from the cold
Once inside he offered his hand
saying thanks in a voice very bold

I made a pot of fresh coffee
and the stranger began his tale
Seems his car broke down late last night
and he’d been walking in this gale

He had walked about thirty miles
when he saw the light by my front door
It was a miracle he said
he couldn’t have walked one step more

He told me his name was Bobby
and he had a wife and family
Fate took his parents away
when he was just the age of three

He pulled an old worn picture out
from his wallet for me to see
Tears fell from my eyes instantly
as I looked at a picture of him me

I rushed to the mantle and picked
up the same picture of Bobby and me
Showing him the picture I had
of me with him sitting on my knee

I thought I lost you long ago
my son is all I could say
I remember that terrible day
when those people took you away

(big hugggsssssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, now I'm flowing in tears because just envisioning that boy returning into the arms of a loved one is such a graceful feeling that sticks like a still-frame in my mind, and knowing God makes so many reunions work! (wipes tears) This is beautiful, sweet friend, you deserve angel hugs for this, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Paul, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Whether it's happened to you or not, this is the story of many a yearning soul... and sometimes the ending to the story is a happy one just like your poem - It's lovely, Paul...

Paul~
A lovely, tender tale for the telling~
You would have no way of knowing (?) ...
but I do know a couple of somebody's who fit this story soooo well~
I'll be sharing it with them both~

Martie...It would be wonderful if all stories could end happy, but I know it doesn't always happen that way in real life.
In our poems we can make the endings happy though. Glad that you took time to read and for your tender reply...Paul
