“How much for the chair?”

14 with twenty dollars
from sweating out lofts
stacking on trucks
and eating pork and beans
from the can.

“$12.00”
Came the puzzled reply
Over glasses that slid
Down a sweat covered nose

Paid
The chair went on back
And trekked the two miles
Home in a bouncing bruise
Of walk a ways
Stop a few
Walk some more
And finally through

Oak an ugly red
Grew lighter with each coat peeled
Each year and use discarded
Until it showed grain
And I
The new owner
Added my own stain

3 decades later
it is a consistent
anchored through two failed
many moves
and years of
“who?”

Perhaps its time
To once again
Renew
the chair
and my view

Hey, I am surprised that you don't have just half a chair...

Great writing!

Fabulous! A challenge well met.

What comfort this old chair must give, an old friend for sure!

Ron, smiling here . . .
yes, I thought of my rocking chair
when I read this, then realized, in a manner, you are speaking of yourself

Just absolutely amazing
way more than well met
xxoo
