(Most of my songs have more upbeat, acoustic melodies, but this is my heavier-rock song I wrote in Ireland, knowing about the myths of banshees and then finding it so much more heartaching to hear of the Massacre of Glencoe, where the government ordered a merciless slaughter of all the clans people because one clan leader accidently went to the wrong place to sign a treaty of loyalty to the protestant King William the III and signed the document one day late, which warned serious punishment if not everyone signed it by the deadline, and that ever since that terrible evening, it is claimed the banshee screams every anniversary evening of that dark day! This is my hard-rock song in thoughts of it! )

I can see her washing the clothes of the dead

with her brittle hands she's tucking her head

Down by the river

You can feel the shiver

As she washes the blood from childbirth...
.
.
.
Have we already forgotten why you cry?

Cause I've reasoned with you time after time

Why her face is pale

And her teeth all stale

Petrified like her bones...
.
.
.
.
.
I feel I've already died a thousand deaths

But whose blood is this that has shed

Other than the blood dripping from the eyes of the banshee...
.
.
.
.
.
How long has she stood her with her fears

Even after these few hundred years

Every week ago

It feels like the Massacre of Glencoe

All over again...
.
.
.
Discretion may be the best part of valour

But misfortune is no act of a robber

The Earl's regiment slaughtered your children

And murdered all those women

Just like you...
.
.
.
.
.
I feel I've already died a thousand deaths

But whose blood is this that has shed

Other than the blood dripping from the eyes of the banshee...
.

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Well the wood may renew the foliage it sheds

But every pitcher that goes to the water is broken in the end

Cause no matter what

There's not enough

To nurse these infections within these scars...
.
.
.
Are you still looking for your foster-child?

You depended on yourself all the while

It's best you hide those breasts

Under your grey-green dress

Cause there are too many spriggans on patrol...
.
.
.
.
.
I feel I've already died a thousand deaths

But whose blood is this that has shed

Other than the blood dripping from the eyes of the banshee...
.

Gosh, this stirring write almost slipped by me! I still have tingles all over my body from reading it! Your trip to Ireland continues to pay dividends to both you and to us! You have a wealth of material from which to draw on and I'm happy that you are sharing it with us!

Linda

Awesome opening verse Noah, the whole thing is just GRAND, but you really set the tone, had quite the Celtic feel to the rhythms there (I'm a big fan of Celt music as well)

and the power of the words and presentation lended itself nicely to a driving rock beat.

Me likes much.
