The table, hewn of finest oak.
Polished daily, preciously kept
for special  moments.

Moments of remember, of forget
and forgot.  Of steaming pots,
buttered rolls,   of hams and turkeys
stuffed.

Moments of sadness, of death’s
gathering before the mourn.  Of
weddings and rings,   of cakes
and smiling eyes.

Pristine to view, comforting.
A stray piece of gum secretly
hid away.   A child’s hiding
place,   a cat’s rub.   Sturdy
and strong, weathering
generations.

Will the mighty oak stand
till the last waltz, the last
hand touches?  And when
those fingers lightly trace
the grain, will memories
flood and bring a smile?

I have many antiques..some from family..others newly bought over the years..both holding memories for me.

Lovely writing Barry.

~ So often your writing evokes memories that flood my mind and brings me a smile. Such be the case with this poem. Thank you!

...much like the tree it used to be...  Enjoyed your style of ponder and nostalgia.

Barry

I have such a table...and I have the same thoughts...no gum though...sigh.  Maybe I need to put some there, just because.
